Jayson Bales

Born and raised in Waco, Texas, Jayson always dreamed of being a musician but never followed the dream.  After watching childhood buddy Pat Green begin his music career in college at Texas Tech, Jayson thought it would be fun to play guitar for a creativity outlet.  Though he was given his first guitar in the seventh grade, Jayson took two lessons and didn't pick it up much again until college.  Towards the end of college, Jayson began writing poems and putting those words to music.  Jayson shared those songs with no one though and they rested in his notebook until a life changing experience in 1996.  With his good friend Matt Molina, Jayson went to the Kerrville Folk Festival in the Summer of 96'.  So moved by the songwriters and the music sharing that went on at the festival, Jayson began writing more songs and even sharing them with friends.

In the Spring of 2001, urged on by another music friend, Jayson began opening for acoustic guitar duo Hondo at Adair's in Deep Ellum.  More songwriting and more playing produced the album Clermont St. in May 2002 and by the summer Jayson was a solo act.  Since then, a musical whirlwind has surrounded Jayson as he has received notice from the Dallas Morning News, KNON radio and KHYI "The Range" radio in Dallas.  Jayson began his solo career at the legendary Poor David's Pub in Dallas, but he has also played Tex's Taphouse, Cafe Brazil, The All Good Cafe, Bill's Records, C.C.'s Coffeehouse, Love and War in Texas, Adairs, The Old Quarter Acoustic Cafe in Galveston, Graffitti's in Austin, The Woody Guthrie Folk Festival in Oklahoma, and other clubs throughout Texas.  Jayson has also performed with Classical composer David Amram from New York, Texas legend Billy Joe Shaver, folk legend John Smith as well as big-time New York singer-songwriter Blu Sanders.  All that in just three months!

What does the future hold for this newly acclaimed singer-songwriter?  "I'm not sure," Jayson says.  "I guess I'll write some more songs and play some more guitar until N-Sync or the Backstreet Boys come along and hire me as a sixth man.  I could be the token ugly guy."  When not playing music, Jayson loves to read, watch movies, fly fish, eat out and watch his beloved Texas Tech Red Raiders play football.  And yes, he really is a financial advisor.
