Beanstock Music Festival features Mud and Music

E-Flat Porch Band

The 2nd annual Beanstock Festival got off to a muddy, musical start on Saturday October 13, in a meadow at Coyote Ridge Ranch, just south of Tom Bean, Texas. Around 100 hardy festivalgoers enjoyed hours of music, potluck food and fellowship. Saturday's musical line-up included Bill Kisinger from Celina, Bill and Bonnie Cruciger from Richardson, the E-Flat Porch Band from McKinney, and the New Hokum Boys from Richardson. Several fans camped in the meadow, where frogs and coyotes lent their sounds to the concert. Bill Kisinger, the E-Flat Porch Band, and Dan Haddock of Azle played Sunday's music.

A big pot of beans and homemade cornbread was enjoyed by all. Rudy Littrell of the E-Flat Porch Band made hoe cakes over the open fire, as an illustration of his original song, "Hoe Cakes" which he performed at the concert.

"I conceived this festival as a way to celebrate the fine acoustic musicians we have in the North Texas area," explains festival organizer and sound engineer Dan Magers. "My inspiration was the Kerrville Music Festival, my favorite music festival. In the true spirit of the Kerrville Festival, there were many volunteers who need to be thanked, including Greg Knight, Adah Leah Wolf, Joann, Mark and David Winegarden and Jim Poll."
